Why Now Is the Best Time Ever to Raise Funds

Besides being contrarian, were there any real reasons to use this post’s title?
Actually, yes.
Recently, The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported that one in five donors weren’t going to make any gifts now: this means, four out of five will continue giving.
This headline and others like it will discourage your competitors.
Careful Nonprofit Donors
The article further reported that 53 percent of donors were going to give “more carefully.”
You want careful, thoughtful donors.
Careful donors ensure their investments matter.
They focus on bright stars to maximize their impact and to move needles. They feel, think, and contribute.
Tides Out Opportunities
For years the nonprofit sector has shouted, “build a relationship, build a relationship,” like a meditation mantra.
Now as the tides roll out. The people you see standing with you now love you best.
Focus on building your relationships with them.
A Swarm of Launching Pads
Beside The Chronicle, the general media kick starts your campaigns every day. You can find messages everywhere broadcasting the need for your work.
No matter your cause, from job readiness to pets, to hunger or the arts, a barrage of articles about needs. Each offers you a pivot point to launch and share your value with current and new donors.
Our Greatest Generation Moment
You may still feel that this is not a good time.
Your donors may feel this is not a good time.
Twist and turn yourself around. Stand on your head. Do what is needed to find a perspective to show yourself and your donors that this moment is remarkable. It holds your potential greatness. Seize it.*
Vladimir: Let us not waste our time in idle discourse! (Pause. Vehemently.) Let us do something while we have the chance! It is not every day that we are needed. Not indeed that we personally are needed. Others would meet the case equally well, if not better. To all mankind they were addressed, those cries for help still ringing in our ears! But at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not. Let us make the most of it, before it is too late! –Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot
*I am not advocating that you send out an existing appeal. You will, of course, craft your campaign with sensitivity. Otherwise, you risk sounding tone-deaf. If you want to know more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d love to help you craft a plan to connect with your donors now.
